Goodstead (goðrstaðr in Old Norse) hints are our intent: to tend well-being in wholesome ways.
It means “a place that fits the soul”. One that puts an other into good standing, offers advantage, or makes an other firm. The runes are “generous gift” and “heritage place”: a right-fitting, long-standing place of service.
We nourish people, thriving animals and healthy soil. Vibrant soil upholds a wide mix of plants and clean water. Together, they make for strong livestock and prosperous people. With this in mind, we’re happy to be patient if it puts those we serve in good-standing.
Goodstead Highland Fold
Through the summer the fold is rotated every few days inside a single hot wire on a coulee mix of pasture, lowlands, hills and bush. Of 105 acres, 29 are grass and the rest is brush: these animals make a lot out of a little. They're good coulee cattle and are successful on marginal land. In winter, we unroll hay on pasture.
We offer clean water, fresh grass (or hay), and pasture mineral but no grain, wormers, shots, fly tags or rubs.
The cattle are gentle, come on a call, and load well. They wean their own calves and are steady around guardian dogs.
